FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL

WHAT LUBRICATION DO YOU RECOMMEND? (PLUG & PLAY)

To make the lifetime of your hydration system as long as it could possibly be we recommend lubricating the o-ring before each use. We recommend following Hydrapaks recommendations for lubrication and to not use any other lubricants. Hydrapak recommend using silicone, glycerin, or beeswax-based lubricants applied to the o-ring. Just apply a small smear on the o-ring - a little goes a long way! Do not use petroleum-based lubricants, or olive oil, coconut oil, or any other types of cooking oil as they cause the seal to swell, and will make the system sticky and hard to release.

WHAT IS THE HYDRATION SYSTEMS MADE OF?

Our hydrapak bladders are made out of TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) and all of our hydration systems are BPA and PVC free and meet all FDA and EU regulations. Our Hydrapak Elite and Shape-Shift bladders have a No Leak Warranty through Hydrapak. Our recycable bladders are made out of PET/NY/PE and are super durable and leak proof.

BLADDER

HOW DO I OPEN MY BLADDER?

HydraPak bladders can be somewhat difficult to open when they are brand new. But rest assured, the bladders will open! The following steps will walk your through the initial process of opening our bladder. After the bladder is open for the first time, it will be much easier to open for the rest of the life of the product.

1. Remove The Slider Top

2. Flip The Flap Up

3. Locate The Front Handle

4. Locate The Rear Handle

5. Pull The Handles Apart From Each Other

If you need more help opening the bladder please see this page on Hydrapaks website

CAN I FREEZE MY BLADDER?

Yes all of our hydration bladders can be frozen but we have a few recommendations to follow if you freeze them.

  • Please don't fill the bladder all the way - ice expands and if it's completely full, it could split open the plastic.
  • Please be sure not to drop it, as an impact while at a low temperature can cause the plastic to split open.
  • When you remove your flask or bladder from the freezer, add a little bit of cold water to it so that it can break up any sharp ice shards that might puncture the plastic film.

BITE VALVE AND DRINK TUBE

CAN'T CONNECT TUBE TO MY BLADDER (FIXED)

The fixed hydration system can be a bit tricky to install the first time. This video from Hydrapak show you exactly how to install the fixed connector correctly

HOW TO REMOVE A FIXED CONNECTOR

The fixed connector can be disconnected from the bladder using a pair of pliers. This can be done but we do not recommend doing it too much as it could shorten the lifetime of the connector.

MY BITE VALVE IS LEAKING?

The reason for the leak is usually related to the user biting too hard into the silicone. When the teeth hit the hard plastic piece in the middle of the bite valve your teeth could potentially cut through the silicone creating a cut. The best way to prevent this from happening is biting soft into the bite valve. The bite valve does not release more liquid when bit harder. If used correctly the risk of getting a cut is very low and a bite valve can last for months/years.

CARE & CLEANING

HOW DO I CLEAN MY BLADDER?

The following information is recommended by the manufacturer (Hydrapak). Read the full support thread here.

ELITE

Reverse by placing your hand in the bladder, grab the bottom, and pull it back through the top opening, just like turning a sock inside-out. The molded opening can also be flipped after the bladder body has been reversed. Then, throw it in the dishwasher or rinse with mild soap and water. Make sure to let the bladder dry out completely while reversed.

SHAPE-SHIFT

The Shape-Shift features a removable baffle which locks for a slim profile and increased stabilization. When unlocked it reverses for easy cleaning - place it on the top-shelf of your dishwasher or rinse with mild soap and water. Make sure to let the bladder dry out completely while reversed.

SHAPE-LOC (ALSO KNOWN AS FIXED CONNECTION)

Many of our brand partners use a fixed baffle bladder called the Shape-Loc. It can only be reversed up until the baffle is exposed but is still simple to clean. We recommend either using a bottle brush or Bottle Bright.

Method One - Fill your bladder with warm water and use a bottle brush along with mild soap to scrub it clean. Rinse well and hang it upside down to dry.

Method Two - Fill your bladder with warm water and drop in one or two Bottle Bright tablets, slide the top close and let sit for fifteen to thirty minutes (depending on the amount of residue). Rinse and hang upside down to dry.
